What to Expect
It’s natural to feel a little anxious when beginning therapy. Our first meeting will simply be an opportunity to get to know one another, talk about what brings you here, and think together about what might be helpful. There are no expectations or pressures, you’re welcome to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. This first session is also a chance to see if we feel like the right therapeutic ‘fit,’ as a good connection is an important part of the process.
The number of sessions people require can vary greatly. This often depends on what you’d like to work on, how long the difficulties have been around, and how much they are impacting your life. For some, therapy might be relatively short-term, while others may benefit from a longer process. As a guide, standard treatment can range from around 10 to 20 sessions, but this is always tailored to your individual needs and circumstances.
There is no pressure or fixed expectation about how long you should continue, you are free to bring therapy to an end whenever it feels like the right time for you.
